The Process of Getting Veneers: Step-by-Step

Dentist explaining veneer procedure to patient
Getting porcelain veneers is typically a multi-step process that takes place over 2-3 weeks. Knowing what to expect can ease anxiety and help you plan for your transformation.

Visit 1: Consultation & Design

This is where the magic starts. You and your dentist discuss your goals. They may take photos, X-rays, and digital scans to design your new smile. You'll choose the shade and shape that looks best on you.

Visit 2: Preparation & Temporaries

This is the 'work' appointment. Your dentist gently removes a tiny amount of enamel to make room for the veneers. They then take a final precision impression to send to the lab. Before you leave, you are fitted with temporary acrylic veneers. This is a 'test drive' for your new look.

The 'Test Drive' Phase

For the next 1-2 weeks, you wear your temporaries. This is crucial! If they feel too long, too short, or the bite feels off, tell your dentist. Any changes can be communicated to the lab before the permanent ones are made.

Visit 3: The Final Bond

Your custom porcelain veneers arrive. The dentist removes the temporaries and places the permanent ones with water or glycerin to check the fit and color. If you both love them, the tooth is cleaned, and the veneers are permanently bonded in place with a special light-cured cement.
You walk out with your permanent, brand-new smile!
