7 important Dental hygiene tips for healthy teeth and gums

Dental hygiene forms a very integral part of maintaining good overall health. Brushing and flossing on a regular basis, along with regular check-ups and cleanings, can help in preventing tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health problems.   4. Avoid sugary and acidic foods: Consuming sugary and acidic foods and drinks on a regular basis can erode tooth enamel, leading to cavities and tooth decay. By avoiding or at least limiting  your intake of sugary and acidic foods, you can ensure the good health of your teeth and gums.

     

  5. Chew sugarless gum: Chewing sugarless gum after meals can help in the simulation of  saliva production and can also prevent tooth decay. Gums which contain xylitol can also help in the prevention of cavities by inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria in your mouth.

     

  6. Drink plenty of water: Drinking water is very important for maintaining good dental hygiene. It helps wash away food particles and bacteria in your mouth, preventing tooth decay and gum disease. Water also helps stimulate saliva production, which is essential for neutralising harmful acids and keeping your mouth healthy.

     

  7. Visit your dentist regularly: Regular dental check-ups are very essential for maintaining good oral health and overall well-being. They help in preventing dental problems, detect systemic diseases, and provide advice on maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
